GARDEN ROUTE NATIONAL PARK
Guests to the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park (GRNP) can now canoe down its meandering picture-perfect lakes and rivers.
The Wilderness and Swartvlei lake systems form the core conservation area of the Wilderness section of the GRNP. It comprises three lakes, and these, along with the Serpentine wetlands, form part of an internationally proclaimed RAMSAR site (wetlands of global significance for biodiversity conservation). Visitors to the park can enjoy a canoe trip down the Touw and the Serpentine Rivers right up to Island Lake.

By paddling up the Touw River, visitors have the opportunity to pass through thick indigenous forests and spot a wide variety of indigenous birds, while the Serpentine River meanders through dense wetland reed banks to Island Lake, which offers breathtaking views of the interconnected waterscapes.
