A PINNACLE DESTINATION

Feature destination
Pinnacle Point  Golf Resort

South Africa’s picturesque Garden Route is popular among both local and international visitors for a multitude of reasons. One of these is its world-class golf courses.

Set on a cliff-side overlooking the Indian Ocean, Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Resort in Mossel Bay was recently named Best Golf Development in Africa in the prestigious African Property Awards 2014 - 2015 in association with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. It offers seven kilometres of fairways and 80 bunkers, with the Indian Ocean as the only water hazard.

Well-known South African golf course architect Peter Matkovich, who opened it together with top Irish Tour Golf Professional Darren Clarke in November 2006, designed the championship course.

Winner of the Compleat Golfer 5-star Experience Award in 2012, the Pinnacle Course offering comes complete with expert advice from the Pinnacle Peak Performance Centre, run by the Grasslands Golf Academy. Here, stateof-the-art technology includes impressive offerings such as a six-camera, three-dimensional system to analyse the golfer's body, club and impact in 360 degrees. The information is accurate to a 10th of a degree. The high-speed cameras are the same as those used in video games, and track the markers placed on the golfer and club to view all angles of the swing.

For those who would like to enjoy an active holiday off the golf course, the resort offers walking trails around the estate, as well as easy access to the Pinnacle Point Nature Reserve. Mountain bike enthusiasts can also enjoy trails through the reserve area, with the choice between a shortened easy ride and a longer, more challenging option.

For those interested in the historical significance of the resort’s spectacular natural surrounds, a guided tour of the historic caves is a must.

Partaking in all these outdoor activities can build up a fierce appetite, and days at the resort typically begin and end with scrumptious meals enjoyed at the Pinnacle Restaurant, where everything from gourmet creations to comforting favourites can be enjoyed whilst taking in the magnificent surrounding views.

Although day visitors can enjoy the multitude of offerings at Pinnacle Point, the resort offers luxuriously outfitted lodges and villas ranging from one-, two-, and three-bedroom units to four-bedroom penthouses. The villas all boast large balconies with panoramic sea views, and both the villas and the lodges share a beautiful landscaped garden with a pristine swimming pool.

Catering for everyone from the serious golfer to the relaxed seaside explorer, Pinnacle Point is one of the Garden Route’s most popular destinations.
